  The Rev. Mike Morgan became the pastor of First Presbyterian Church effective Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009.  
Rev. Morgan was selected by the church’s Pastor Nominating Committee and approved by a congregational vote earlier this year. He succeeds the Rev. Dr. Martha Robson, who has served the church as interim pastor since this spring. The Rev. Robson was recenty appointed interim pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Monticello.

he Rev. Morgan, 55, was ordained as a minister of the word and sacrament in July 1992 following his receipt of a master of divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He earned a degree in biology from Baylor University, graduating in 1975. He attended the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio from 1975-1977. He received a BAAS in business from East Texas State University-Texarkana in 1985.
 
While attending Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Morgan was a student pastor and preacher at Sunrise Beach Community Church, Sunrise Beach, Texas. Following graduation, he became pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Port Neches, Texas. He served Trinity from May 1992 to November 2000. 
 
Morgan comes to Magnolia from First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro, Texas, where he has served since November 2000.
 
Morgan served on many committees during his time in Hillsboro. He was an organizer of the Hill Country Habitat for Humanity chapter. He was a member of the Hillsboro Housing Authority and served on local boards for the Salvation Army, Interfaith Ministry and Ministerial Alliance. Morgan has also worked with Kairos Prison Ministries.
 
The Rev. Morgan grew up within the First Presbyterian Church of Texarkana where his brother, attorney Chuck Morgan, is a lay speaker. 
 
Morgan and his wife, Debbie, have two grown children and one grandchild. They both have family in the Texarkana and Magnolia areas. Debbie Morgan is a school teacher.

Fellowship Committee

The Fellowship Committee works to strengthen the bonds between church members through special activities.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee creates the annual church budget, sees to the proper use of the church's financial resources, and conducts an annual pledge campaign.


Property Committee



The Property Committee sees to the maintenance and improvement of the church's physical facilities.


Worship Committee


 The Worship Committee assists with the conduct of each service.
  The Worship Committee assists the pastor with the conduct of weekly worship services, including preparations of the sanctuary and the recruitment of volunteers to serve as liturgists, acolytes, ushers and greeters.

Board of Deacons
 


The deacons of the church have special duties to care for the sick and other persons in need.
